Job description

Our client, a successful engineering company based in County Durham is looking to appoint a detail orientated CNC programmer & machinist who will be responsible for the running of a new Vertical Machining Centre and existing machine tools within the Precision section.

The candidate will work with the team leader to deliver quality products in-line with company vision and values, and assist in other VMC sections with programming and machining techniques.

Key Tasks:

·Manufacture from technical drawings in-line with customer requirements

·Block milling and pre-machining of raw material

·Setting up existing or new Die Blocks and running die sinking models via Autodesk PowerMill

·Making modifications or adding sub programmes to NC programmes at the machine

·Dressing out impressions with a die-grinder to remove burrs and machining marks

·Making plaster models of the impressions to prove tooling

·3rd and 4th axis programming at the machine using Fanuc and Easy Guide systems

·Programming and the machining of new products and prototypes while working with Production Engineers to improve current practices and the development of new products

·Setting up multiple datum points and tooling for batch processing

·Assist in the movement of historical products and programmes onto the new VMC

·Support main VMC area with manufacturing techniques and programming

·Looking at the complete manufacturing process of existing products including current set up times and suggesting any process or tooling improvements

·Conduct root cause analysis of old programmes and understand problems and rewriting programmes if necessary

·Manual machining on Milling machines and Lathes

·Perform PPM duties within the section

·Work with Quality / Sales / Maintenance departments on progress of work and machine status

·Maintain quality and safety standards throughout

·Surface Grinding

Candidate Requirements:

·Proven experience in a manufacturing / machine shop environment in a programming and machining role is essential

·Experience with Fanucor Doosan – Fanuc 0iMF CNC control system with Manual Guide ‘I’

·Manual machining skills (milling, turning, surface grinding) in a recognised apprenticeship

·Educated to HNC level in Engineering for Manufacturing or Mechanical disciplines

·Experience and knowledge of quality inspection measuring tools and techniques

·Knowledge of tooling and tool types used in VMC machining

·Able to work with little or no supervision on assigned jobs

·Experience with other CNC control systems and machines

·Knowledge of machining different material types

·Any CAD programming offline such as SolidWorks would be beneficial but is not essential

Hourly rate: - up to £15 to £18 per hour based on experience

Annual Holidays: 25 days + 8 statutory UK holidays

Additional Benefits: Life assurance at 1 x base annual salary and auto enrolled into company pension scheme after 3 months

Shifts: - starting on day shift with the potential of moving to 6 -2 and 2 – 10 on weekdays in times of higher demand and with overtime available at selected times

Day shift currently follows this pattern:

Monday to Thursday: 7.30am to 4.30pm (Friday: 7.30am to 12.30pm)
